In the past 4.5 weeks I have learned a very valuable lesson in being a mom. ALWAYS start getting ready 15 minutes early. It seems as though every single time I forget about his 'golden rule,' Small Frye doesn't forget to spit up all over himself right before we walk out the door requiring a full outfit change. Or I walk out the door, place the car-seat perfectly onto it's base in my backseat and then, SHIT - I forgot the diaper bag/wipes/diapers/bottles/baby!
Honestly, I have had at least 10 appointments since the cute little creature has been born and I've been late to all of thembut one of them. I have found peace in the fact that most places will let you keep an appointment if you arrive within the 15 minute time-frame after your appointment time. This fact, for me, has been lifesaving here lately.
Since we are always running late Travis has developed a new and improved (!) driving technique. I call it the You'd Better Grab That Oh-Shit Bar Method, and he implies it every single time we enter the car anymore. I'm pretty sure the little one will grow up with "need for speed" paling those of the infamous Ricky Bobby.
By the time we reach our destination I've bitten off all but four of my finger nails and pulled a bald spot (or three) in my scalp. I grab the diaper bag, car seat, and usually the baby too, and make a mad dash for the front door. By the time I reach the receptionist at any given office I am babbling incoherently, viciously scrambling through my purse for that prescription of Xanax, and wishing I had just stayed home!
Needless to say, I have canceled my appointments for the next six months, and possibly for the rest of my life.
