A thief that stole my heart in February.
I am a mother of two boys. One is 5 and the other is merely 3 weeks old. So I need a phone that does everything for me, because with two small children there isn't much that I can do on my own. I need a phone that will remind me where I need to be and when I need to be there. While driving down the road with a newborn screaming in the backseat I need a phone that can actually tell me how to get to where I'm going. A phone that says "turn here" and "you have arrived at your destination" really comes in handy when your head is spinning and you don't even know which way is up. Also, a phone where I can check important news updates (ie facebook and twitter) practically anywhere I'm at? Well, that's always a plus.
I've met a few very sweet women online who decided that me (of all people, right?) should get the opportunity to use and review a Verizon product. Being the dedicated AT&T customer that I am and always have been, since their first dinosaur of a cell phone came out, I felt a bit like a traitor.
After viewing the Verizon website and all of the nifty products they had to offer that feeling immediately left, and I was oh-so-excited to pick something out. I couldn't help but be drawn to the Droid. I had seen the commercials. I had talked to people who had completely fallen in love with their Droid, and I wanted to see what all of the hubbub was about. Next thing I knew I had my very own (for a short time) Droid in my hands. At this point I was pretty sure I had become Queen of Everything, because my lord this thing does it all!
It took me a minute to figure out how to answer calls. No, Ashley, you don't just push the green answer button, you have to slide it to the right. After I figured out that part I was well on my way to becoming a professional Droid user. Honestly though, even after the four weeks I have had this phone I still don't think I've had a chance to use all of the features it has available. Believe me, people, there are MILLIONS.
The sound quality on this phone is unbelievable. You do not want to be using the restroom (a.k.a. taking a leak) and talking to someone who is using a Droid. They will hear it, believe me. You can hear everything on this phone. Also, I am a mumbler. That is what my mother calls it anyway, and not once did she have to say "huh?" or "what dear?" when I was using this phone. It felt very nice not having to repeat every single thing I said 3 or more times.
Another thing that amazed me was the fact that I never lost service. I live in the middle of nowhere. In the land of forests and cow fields. Verizon was there regardless. Even their 3G went everywhere with me. No matter where I wandered off to, this phone was completely functional. I even did a little experiment at the MIL's house. I have NEVER been able to use my cell phone there. I've always had to walk outside. With the Verizon phone, however, I could use the phone in any part of her house. After years of having to walk outside, this amazed me.
Did I mention all of the amazing apps? I haven't even had time to look through them all, but there are way too freakin' many to mention. One that really caught my eye was the Contraction Timer. No? Are you serious? Yes, I am. This thing will time your contractions for you! No more having to count on your seriously freaking out husband! Another favorite is iheartradio which lets you listen to basically any radio station imaginable.
I am a sucker for ringtones. I like to change mine at least every other day. My phone will ring as anything from Rod Stewart to George Jones to Ludacris. The MP3 Download app will search for music for you then let you download it and use it as a ringtone. Did I mention this was FREE? No more paying $3 or more per ringtone from AT&T. This, my friends, is where I fell in love.
The man is forcing me to also mention the Discovery Channel app, because he's a dork and likes things like that. Clips from all of his favorite Discovery Channel shows. There you go, dear. I told them. I'll admit, it is pretty cool.
The most amazing thing about this phone to me is the quality of the pictures that it takes. I've had pretty much any kind of phone you can think of. I've used the Blackberry, Iphone, etc. and none of them take photos like the droid does. I've added some of the photos I've taken intoan album just to show you all, because as I said I am amazed by this. I didn't use my digital camera the whole time I had this phone.
Over the past 3 weeks this phone has been with me through it all. It was there during the birth of my son, which allowed me to take some beautiful pictures and a few not so beautiful pictures, and let me tweet and update my facebook the whole time. After his birth and our stay in the hospital the next week it kept me in touch with family and friends and gave me the support I needed in a time such as that. It also went with me down my fall down a flight of stairs and let me message my mom to say "help! I think I broke my shoulder!"
So yes, Droid I love you.
Oh, and by the way AT&T I'm sorry, but I've found love elsewhere. We've had our good times and our bad times, but from here on out I think we should just be friends.
